Taylor Wimpey Development Proposal
Property developers Taylor Wimpey have published outline plans for a large scale development on fields to the south of Sandy Lane in Old Milverton. This is taking place before the South Warwickshire Local Plan has been finalised. Old Milverton & Blackdown Joint Parish Council therefore believe it is premature and speculative. The area is part of the West Midlands Green Belt; intended to prevent the merging of smaller towns with Coventry and the West Midlands. We argue that development in this area should not be permitted because:
- The green belt land in this area meets the five purposes of green belt defined by the government, so it should be kept as such.
- The South Warwickshire Local Plan research phase identified sufficient sites to meet housing need without building on the green belt.
- The area is not a sustainable location as the transport infrastructure is not present and cannot be developed due to the constraints of the road network in Leamington town centre.
You can share your views with Taylor Wimpey via their consultation website but note that this an internal exercise that they are carrying out and will not be read by planning officials. Taylor Wimpey are planning to submit a formal planning application later in the year.
We will keep you updated but please email theclerk@ombparish.gov.uk if you want to get in touch with us about this matter.
